Reproduction of a miniature depicting the Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina, from a "Book of Prayers" commissioned by Sultan Selim III, the 28th Ottoman Sultan (ruled 1789 – 1807).

This beautiful, FAUX CANVAS frame is ready for display in your home without any additional expense.

"Book of Prayers", that is, collections of verses selected from the Quran (Enam-i-Serif) and prayers for the Prophet (Delailul–Hayrat) were frequently published in 18th century Ottoman Turkey.

Pious patrons of art commissioned famous calligraphers and artists to write and illustrate such "Book Of Prayers". Early on it became a custom to add miniature paintings of Mecca, "the ennobled", and Medina, "the radiant", to these exquisite manuscripts.

Shown here is a reproduction of a miniature painting depicting the sacred mosques in Mecca and Medina, attributed to Hafiz Mehmet. It forms part of a "Book of Prayers" with calligraphy by Abdullah Edirnevi (d.1728) and illumination and paintings by Hafiz Mehmet. Original bookbinding: 6.125 x 4.5 inches

The work was commissioned by Sultan Selim III, the 28th Ottoman Sultan (ruled 1789 – 1807).
