The wedding festivities of Prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Emperor Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal, in February 1633, consisted of a series of events. On the day of the actual marriage ceremony the groom was escorted by his brothers in the solemn equestrian procession depicted here, from his house to the Palace, where he was received by his father Shah Jahan in the Diwan-i-Aam and given ceremonial presents.

Since the event took place in the evening, the Palace was illuminated by various forms of illumination (seen in the picture) used in that period. We can also see a man spraying water on the ground to keep the dust down.
